Clintonville’s Four Wheel Drive Museum Special OpportunityDid you know that Clintonville is the home of the Four Wheel Drive? It is! Two Clintonville machinists, Otto Zachow and William Besserdich, developed the first effective four wheel drive automobile, and, in 1909, formed the Four Wheel Drive Auto Company, with the help of local lawyer, Walter Olen (for whom Olen Park was named.) A few years later, the Company’s emphasis changed to trucks. It developed and manufactured mail carriers, ammunition carriers (20,000 for our WW I forces), highway and road maintenance vehicles, firetrucks, race cars, and more. The Four Wheel Drive Museum in Clintonville, located in the original machine shop where it all started, contains a sampling of the vehicles designed and manufactured during the Company’s history. Typically, the Museum is only open on Saturday afternoons, when many of us will be in the field. However, we have arranged for a special guided tour to take place on Wednesday afternoon, August 2, 2017. Further Details will follow. |

Announcing the Trash Duck Challenge Fun Event! There's going to be a Brand New Event at the 2017 National Specialty Day on Thursday, August 3rd -- the Trash Duck Challenge. Suitable
for all American Water Spaniels -- they only
need to like to chase bumpers. To be held after
lunch, at the Olen Park show site in
Clintonville. You, the Handler will have two minutes to toss bumpers -- 10 of them -- and attempt to get them in the barrel. The barrel will be set at a pre-set, defined distance for all participants. Your "misses" are retrieved by your dog, and can be re-tossed by you. Your dog must remain behind the line until after the bumper hits the ground. Dog may be held by another person, and the handler is encouraged to arrange for a "dog holder." 2 minute time limit. $10.00 Entry fee. Winner(s) split the pot with the Club. Here are the Rules: |
Get Ready for the Roustabout!
It is a fun event that simulates an upland game
hunt.
The 15 minute hunt consists of two gunners who each have only 3 shells, one AWS and 3 planted birds. It is a timed event that gives the hunter credit for unused time and shells, and for birds shot, and retrieved. Pre-entry is strongly encouraged by the closing date of July 12th to be assured a spot and to be listed in the catalog. Limited gate entries may be accepted depending on bird supply, weather and time limitations. Entries received after the closing date will be considered a gate entry and an additional $5 fee will be required. See the entry form on page 35 of the National Specialty and Hunt Tests Booklet. |
