All About the 2014 Nationals

    The AWSC National Specialty and Hunt Tests were held over four sunny Wisconsin summer days that were carbon copies of each other.
The opening Mean Seeds seminar, sponsored by the club's Health and Genetics Committee and held at the Holiday Inn, was informative and quite alarming.  Please make yourself aware of these herbaceous hazards as you venture into the field this fall.  For more information, see the Mean Seeds website.

     The National Specialty, Awards Banquet, Brown Bag Rafffle, and Premium raffles were held inside at the Western Waukesha Dog Training Club's grounds. On display were raffle and auction items and a display of antique AWS photos provided by Mary Kangas. The Retriever Training seminar, led by pro trainer Greg Brda, generated a lively discussion about leading dogs to success and many anecdotes about problems encountered in training.  Finally, Many AWSC Awards were presented after the the buffet dinner and the photograpy competition.

     The Brown Bag Raffle and the Premium Raffle, made possible by business and individual donors, were held after dinner as well. 

 

    Thursday's  Roustabout, a timed, tournament-style competition, was held on two, back-to-back upland fields.  Plenty of good dog work and some good shooting by handlers and their partners was great fun as always, with young dogs and old hard at the hunt.  Pheasants were on the agenda, and they flew well.

Youth Handlers and Puppies had their chance to run their tests after the Roustabout.

The Water Trial was held in the afternoon warmth, with plenty of good water work on display.  Ribbons were presented to the winners at the Delafield Bruhouse banquet.  After dinner, the Annual  Auction for several major items resulted in lively bidding for some unique items and important revenue to the AWSC.

Friday and Saturday were the AWSC Hunt Tests.  Performing upland flushing chores and land and water retrieving, dogs and handlers were challenged at all levels.  While some earned ribbons and titles, all enjoyed the chance to learn what they needed to work on with their dogs.

 A big THANKS is due to our judges, Greg Brda, Stu Henderson, Dawbn Schuster, and Jeff Zachow for giving us their time and energy.  They were each very skilled,  helpful and patient
